In a recent interview, Gordon Ramsay gave us some insight into what to expect from the sixth round of wannabe chefs. We know from the “Confrontation’ video, that we can expect more fireworks than ever before – but what about their cooking ability (after all, that’s what this hellish job interview is really supposed to be about!).

One question was about the confidence of this group of contestants, the great chef responded with

“I always say if you let your food do the talking, you’d be surprised how far you go in a short period of time… I encourage that level of confidence. That’s great. But when you’ve got the arrogance, the confidence and you can’t cook, then you look stupid. So it’s only a matter of time before they get exposed. However never, never knockout that kind of confidence from a young chef to begin with because you need that… I want to inspire them and push them to the limits.”

When specifically asked about the face to face confrontation, the response was “I suppose they’ve watched the show before and they want to come in with a bravado,” “But I always say if you let your food do the talking, you’d be surprised how far you go in a short period of time.”

When asked about the standard of comeptition this year (something people have been amazed by in the past – like what chefs can’t name all of the cuts of meat on a cow??!!) Chef Ramsay replied “More than anything, chefs have gotten better, which is great news, which makes my life a lot easier. I can be a lot more creative in terms of the menu.”

Gordon Ramsay went on to say that “It’s possibly the most demanding in terms of frustration level, but I think we’ve got some exceptional chefs, which may turn out to be a bit of a surprise I think,” “I think the standard of chefs across the board is far greater… We’ve been a lot more creative in terms of the challenges and there have been a few twists.”
