A Gordon Ramsay-branded iPhone app for recipes and cooking advice would storm to the top of the App Store download charts, according to a new survey by VoucherCodes.co.uk.
In a survey of 3,000 people across the UK by top shopping website VoucherCodes.co.uk, well over one in three Brits showed their support for the release of a cookery app by the notoriously fiery chef. Over 1 billion apps have been downloaded worldwide since September 2009 and 3 billion in total over the past 18 months. The download rate from the App Store is currently more than 10.1 million per day, up from 6.9 million per day between April and July, according to Apple’s own figures.
As the popularity of smartphone applications continues to accelerate, it is becoming increasingly important for all brands, including celebrities, to be represented.
Top 10 Celebrity iPhone Apps Wishlist
1. Gordon Ramsay – recipes and nutritional advice on demand, including how-to cooking video tutorials.
2. Michael McIntyre – get the best jokes on demand.
3. Donald Trump – tips and advice on how to be successful in business and make your first million.
4. Russell Brand – want to make everyone laugh? This application would give you access to Russell’s best jokes and pranks ideas.
5. Cheryl Cole – get life and relationship advice from the UK’s top celebrity mentor.
6. Simon Cowell – financial advice on how to make money and improve singing.
7. Amy Winehouse – alcohol units calculator, know exactly what’s in all your favourite drinks.
8. David Beckham – men’s style, health and fashion advice.
9. Victoria Beckham – top fashion advice for your body shape, get Victoria’s look for less.
10. Kate Moss – city party locator, the best hang-outs in top fashion cities.
While there may already be apps spoofing Ramsay’s foul-mouthed outbursts and a game based on his hit TV show Hell’s Kitchen, what 38% of respondents most want is the top chef’s recipes on their mobiles. Consumers also want nutritional advice and how-to-cook video tutorials, the survey revealed.
The craggy-faced chef was the biggest hit with British women. Almost 44% of female respondents gave a Gordon Ramsay cookery app their vote of confidence, compared with just over 30% of men.
Top comic Michael McIntyre should also consider launching his own app, the study revealed. Over 35% said they would use an app that gave them access to the stand-up’s best jokes. McIntyre was more popular with men (41%) than women (30%).
At the other end of the scale, it seems the nation’s love affair with Britain’s Got Talent finalist Susan Boyle might be over. The Scottish chanteuse’s album may have raced to the top of the download charts last year but a SuBo iPhone singing coach app is unlikely to follow suit failing to make the top ten, with only 2% of Brits keen to have it on their mobiles.
A Madonna-branded app dispensing spiritual advice and fitness advice also proved unpopular (4%), as did a potential app from former glamour model Katie Price to showing how to get her look (5%).
